I really enjoyed making this piece as it was pretty different from what I usually produce, but I think it was a needed departure. In the time of doing these “daily" drawings, I felt like I walked away with a different approach to how I produce my art and I feel all the more confident and stronger in my ability for it.
With this piece came a change in my perspective – an epiphany, if you will. I won't get too much into it now, but I generally feel more connected and in touch with my past and the present and the people who have come and gone and are still here today.
But what the fuck does that mean?
Well, Verrsoon - my child project - is now on hiatus. I don't deliver that news lightly as I have been quietly working on this project still in the background. But I feel this intense desire and need to tell a new story, but it's not even my story.
It's yours.
Over the summer, I found myself trying to find how to fit the final missing pages I needed for the next issue of From the Pen to Your Eyes - which I have done with thanks to the Universal Sonnet.
Which means From the Pen to Your Eyes Pt. 2 is coming very soon!
But as I was working on the Universal Sonnet – for fun – and for myself, I ended up falling in love with NY more than ever – like I've never lived here and all these emotions and these feelings of the people I once knew and the stories I've heard from others I'll never meet again.
It's just – more than ever I want to tell your story of why you love New York.
I'm doing something new, something different, but it's still me.
In October, keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of I ❤️ NY.
This is my love letter to the city that raised me and the people that built it and the stories that help it continue to thrive.
It's ambitious, but I need and I want and I will tell your story.
So stay tuned, true believers!
